So as I briefly mentioned on my instagram @heidiroo_art, I started this January drawing challenge for a few reasons. It's always really scary for me and I assume most artists, to post my work on the internet where others see it! But it's also a very useful and amazing experience to find more Ghibli fans or cat lovers etc :)
I started this challenge because I need to improve my illustration skills. There are so many things I skip out on drawing because I'm scared of ruining it. Like hands. IT'S SO DIFFICULT! UGGGH. Anyways, that will be lifetime challenge.
I am also working on my color theory. I want to understand color and the power of being able to nail down amazing color palettes that enhance my illustrations. In order to do that I have to experiment and make mistakes and see which colors I work best with. As well as which colors compliment each other in my perspective.
In addition, it's a difficult process to try and capture the movie character's personality and translate that in my own drawing style. So this exercises this part of my creative brain.
So far it has been very entertaining and love to see all your comments! I look forward to it every day! I definitely plan on doing another personal drawing challenge before the big Inktober challenge. I want to continue to show my commitment to myself and continue to progress. My goal is to build up my portfolio with work that I am 100% proud of. I don't want to have work that I just "finished/completed" but work that really illustrates what Heidiroo is all about.
Hope you are enjoying it! :)
